A tea with @maaikenienhuis
Hey! Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
Hi! My name is Maaike and I’m a 27 year old freelance photographer and video-
editor. I also manage social media accounts and do a lot of trend watching. I’m
currently living my best life in Utrecht in my home-office and love to do some day
trips in between to see my friends, do some shoots or go on solo dates.
How did your journey of creating start?
I started working with my first client when I was still in school. I used to focus on 2D animation (long form) in school but ended up not liking that anymore, when I started working with an influencer I noticed I could use all the skills I gained in those programs over the years to edit videos, motion graphics and even some 3D for clients. It was a great time back then when a lot of influencers were looking for an editor or creative so I somehow rolled into that world. After graduation my Bs in multimedia design I knew I wanted to continue doing all these freelance gigs and never looked back.
What do you love most about what you do?
Every day is different. I really don’t like routine so having a lot of variation in work times, types of jobs and styles is so much fun to me. I also really love networking and through all of these jobs I meet so many cool people, it’s giving me so much energy.
How do you stir things up?
I literally don’t because I feel like even when I do stuff out of my comfort zone or
when I’m doing something ‘new’ I still remain in my own little bubble so nothing feels very wild to me. Guess I’m already stirring up my day to day life by never being in a routine.
What is your favorite tea?
Green yasmin for sure.
What is your biggest dream?
I used to have big dreams all the time but honestly whenever I zoom in on a dream I have I really try to imagine what day to day life looks like within that dream and I feel like I’m just in love with the thought of that dream but in reality it’s not that great once I would live that dream, if that makes sense. So for a couple of years now I have been dream-less haha and it really helped me to learn how to be in the moment instead of always feeling unfulfilled because I’m thinking about the future (which is something I really struggled with). Guess if I had to say something now it would be to never fall out of love with work and staying healthy
while doing it.
What’s the best advice you have ever received?
I don’t feel like any advice I’ve ever got really stood out to me but this quote really stuck by me ‘The happiest of all lives is a busy solitude’ by Voltaire.
