A coffee with Fatima
Hi Fatima welcome to the Lepelclub journal. We’re so happy to have you here with us! First things first, can you tell us a little more about yourself?
Hi Lepel Club! So happy to be here, thank you for inviting me for the Lepel Journal. My name is Fatima – I’m originally from Pakistan, moved to New York for college and now call London my home. I love dogs, I have 2 puppies called Monster and Captain – they are my official sheet testers for Sukun…proudly tested by puppies!
You've found the go-to brand for the most beautiful bedding! Can you tell us a little more about the brand?
Pronounced SU-KOON (meaning peace, serenity, tranquil, calm), we primarily makes luxurious bedding, dedicated to improving the experience of rest and sleep. With Sukun we want to bring a bit of wonder and whimsy to the bedroom with a focus on luxury - epitomising simple elegance, playful sophistication, and a touch of old-world charm.
All Sukun bedding is made from 400 thread count, 100% fine cotton with a sateen weave. The sateen weave of the fabric gives the sheets their signature lustrous look, buttery soft feel and an ever so slight glow. Our bedding is manufactured in a family run mill in Pakistan that has been producing textiles since 1954, and sources cotton under the Better Cotton Initiative standard, ensuring that cotton communities in Pakistan survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
How did the inspiration for Sukun come about initially?
The idea was inspired by stays across boutique hotels, the feeling of checking into a hotel with a lovely inviting bed made up for you – I wanted to bring that feeling into our homes. As holidays often draw to a close, the post vacation blues set in. In response I envisioned Sukun as a way to recreate and extend that vacation vibe -a feeling, space and sanctuary that allows you carry the essence of your holiday back to everyday life – a way to bring home the holiday with Sukun!
How does your bedtime routine look like? And does it involve any of Sukun's products?
It involves all of Sukuns products, particularly those are currently undergoing the testing phase, like our womens pyjamas! As for my own bedtime routine, it tends to be rather uneventful – a relaxing warm bath, followed by a direct dive into bed.
What have been the most challenging, and most rewarding, parts of founding and growing your business?
The most challenging has been juggling a routine and working alone- surprisingly as i’ve found ways to overcome these challenges, they have also transformed into the most rewarding aspects of my journey. Collaborations have allowed me the opportunity to engage with so many interesting founders that I never feel like im working alone. Additionaly having now established a somewhat structured routine, I enjoy the increased flexibility to spend meaningful time with my family and work virtually from any location.
Undoublty the ultimate gratification comes from witnessing people’s contentment with their purchases and their genuine love for sukun sheets.
And finally, how are you planning to stir things up in the future?
We’ve got two very exciting collaborations in the pipeline launching before Christmas!!
