A matcha with Miriam

Welcome to the Journal! To begin, who is Miriam?
Hi! I’m Miriam and I’m a 24 year old Spanish content creator. I moved around a lot growing up so I love traveling and discovering new cultures. I've always had a deep passion for music, singing and of course, matcha. I also love deep conversations and connecting with people: as much as I love my alone time, being surrounded by the people I love is what fills my cup.
Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I was born in a town near Barcelona called Granollers, but when I was five, I moved to Paris with my family. Later, we moved to Tokyo and eventually returned to Barcelona. In 2023, I also did a five-month study abroad program in Montreal, Canada. I’ve been living in Amsterdam for over two years now, and it’s probably the first place I can actually imagine myself settling down in. There’s nothing like this city and its energy; t’s so calming yet active at the same time... the best of both worlds.
How has being a content creator influenced who you are today?
It has helped me connect with people that inspire me the most and whom I look up to; some are even my closest friends now. Doing this full-time has also given me the freedom to travel back and forth to see my family, to structure and plan my days myself, and to make more space for creativity. I can’t imagine doing anything else now. I’ll never take for granted the way it allows me to connect with people and live experiences I would’ve never had otherwise. I also got to create my dream brand because of it, so I can definitely say it shaped who I am, and I’m truly so grateful for it.
What inspired you to start Inori Atelier? Please tell us more about it!
Around 2010, my family and I moved to Tokyo, Japan. I was surrounded by Japanese culture during key years of my life, and living there shaped who my family and I are today. Being exposed to tea ceremonies and matcha pastries from a young age, I developed a deep passion for matcha that goes far beyond any trend. Fast forward to last year, my brother and I decided to create Inori to honor the importance of rituals that Japan taught us by building a Matcha Ritualware brand. For years, I had thought about creating a matcha brand, but after realizing that no one was truly focusing on the experience around ithe accessories, the ritual, and creating that mindful space in your morning routine, it just clicked. And that’s how Inori came to life.
Can you share with us more about your faith journey and how that ties into Inori?
My faith has always been a big part of my life and something that brings our family together. For as long as I can remember, we’ve all prayed for each other and created space in our daily lives to do so. It’s been a journey for me: I’ve believed in God my whole life but after distancing myself from religion for a few years, I found reconnecting with my faith extremely healing while going through a rough patch; it was like coming back to myself, like finding my way back home. In a way, this is what we want to do with Inori, our purpose if you say so: we would love for our community to be able to create those bubbles during their mornings where they can forget about phones and the rush of life to reconnect, wether it’s through whisking their matcha, journaling, meditating... Sharing this has always been a dream of mine and I feel so proud of Inori because of everything it represents.
If you had to describe yourself in 5 words, what comes to mind?
I always struggle with this question, so naturally I texted two of my besties and they’re helping me answer ;) If I would have to pick 5 words from their lists, I would say I’m outgoing, bubbly, ambitious, faithful and perseverant.
How do you relax after a long day?
That’s an easy one haha! The first thing I do when I get home is change into my comfies. Then I will turn on my speaker and play my favorite Spotify playlist called At Home to calm my nervous system down, and if I haven’t done it in the morning, I will sit down and journal. It’s a step I can’t skip because my mind is always rushing, so this helps me get rid of any anxious thoughts. Then I will most likely watch my favorite show while I have dinner, a very hot cup of tea (sometimes too hot) and call it a night :)
We can’t let you go without asking our favorite question! How do you take your coffee?
I sadly haven’t had a coffee in over 5 years (I love the taste but it gave me the worst shakes) so I will stick to matcha! I personally love having my matcha without any milk, just the pure green tea which is how I originally drank it in Japan, but when I’m out and about I will obviously crave my matcha lattes. My go-to order is matcha with the Alpro Barista Coconut Milk - I’m very specific about the milk because I think it really affects the taste, so I can confirm this combination is the way to go ;)
