Hi Nienke, we’re happy to have you here! Welcome to the journal! Can you tell us more
about yourself?
Hi! So nice to introduce myself here. I'm Nienke, 34 years old, and I've been working in the cosmetics industry for 18 years. I'm definitely a morning person and always start my day with a cappuccino. I absolutely love traveling and always find inspiration during my trips. Fun fact: next year, we’re moving to South Africa for about six months!
Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Friesland and still live there with my husband, our daughter Lux Isé, and our little pug Jimmy.
How does your location help you seize new opportunities?
My business is located in the heart of Friesland, in the town of Heerenveen. It’s well known as a true sports hub, with the famous Thialf ice arena right around the corner. Our salon attracts both women and men from all over Friesland and beyond.
What was the inspiration behind opening House of Glow?
For years, I traveled throughout the Netherlands as an account manager and trainer for several amazing beauty brands. When COVID hit, this role (temporarily) came to an end, and it really made me reflect on what I truly wanted. I walked past a beautiful storefront in Heerenveen, and it hit me: this is where I’m going to open my own high-end beauty salon and boutique. My dream became a reality on September 1, 2023.
What was your biggest learning experience at Mieke Petiet?
My biggest learning experience was at Mieke Petiet. I was so young at the time, coming from Friesland, totally unfamiliar with Amsterdam, and had to step far outside my comfort zone. That’s where I really discovered my creative side.
What are your three go-to products available at House of Glow?
I can’t choose – this is a tough one. But if I can share some must-haves with you:
1 → A sheet mask from AIMX. I’ve never seen such instant results from a single use. I always take a few with me when I travel.
2 → I never leave the house without a Courrèges perfume. Slogan is my current favorite.
3 → You absolutely have to try the ‘Elixir de Volume’ by Monika Heiligmann – a lip serum that gives a subtle filler-like effect with just a touch of color.
Thank me later.How do you switch off after work?
People will probably laugh reading this, but I’m not great at switching off – I’m full of ideas and energy. Still, after work I truly enjoy a nice dinner out, or cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good series.
And our favorite question, how do you take your coffee?
A fluffy cappuccino with full-fat milk – this down-to-earth Frisian isn’t jumping on the oat or almond milk trend.
